Every once in awhile, somebody takes a prop covered in dust, a prop taken for granted by years of familiarity, and rockets it off into a different universe, making the old stuff as out of date as the Wright Brothers plane. Probability Question

15 cards can be arranged in 307,674,368,000 ways (factorial 15, 15 X 14 X 13, etc.). What is the probability that if 15 cards consisting of a royal flush in spades, a royal flush in diamonds and the 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 in hearts will, after a random shuffle, end up in this order from top to bottom as the ...

Re: Tarot cards that feel like playing cards?

I don't write short stories, other than the ad copy for some of my effects. Maybe when I retire. If you are going to use Tarot cards for magic, it can't be something like a four ace assembly or cards up the nose or something like that. You have to use the evil, occult vibe that the cards transmit. T...

Thank you, Joe. This is all in aid of a analogous effect I'm working on using Tarot cards. There are 14 cards in a Tarot card suit (e.g., pentacles), Those cards can be arranged in 87,178,291,200 different ways, so, if for example, a spectator and a magician both mixed duplicate sets of 14 cards and...

I think this is the essence of having a "magic eye," similar to an ear for music: you see things that appear ordinary to others, but to you they offer a chance to create a magical effect.

Rubik's Cube Routine Reference

I'm looking for a reference/inventor/info on a Rubik's Cube routine I saw.

Two Cubes are shown: the spectator mixes one, the magician mixes the other.

The magician quickly solves his cube, then scrambles it.

Kicker: the magician's scrambled Cube not matches the spectator's scrambled Cube.

Harry Lorayne is a great writer, whether of magic books or other books, because his personality and enthusiasm explodes out of every sentence. It looks like Harry Lorayne should get the credit for the "101 Deck." I will post the results of my research shortly. Stephen Minch has been a big help in sorting this out. Clearly, Al Koran had nothing to do with the invention of the deck. More later.
